Sedentary jobs can be tough if you have a goal to lose weight. Since you are sitting all day it can have a negative impact on your body. Below are 10 tips on how to maintain your health while having a desk job.

  1. Eat Breakfast

This is a common tip, but the most useful. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and sets the tone for the rest of the day. It fills your body with the proper nutrients and gives you energy to start your day with a positive attitude.

  2. Hydrate

Always keep a reusable water bottle with you and drink throughout the day. If water is too boring for you, add some fruit in it or try carbonated water.

  3. Good Posture

Having a desk job can put lots of strain on your back and your posture. Be aware at how you are sitting in your chair and if you are leaning to close or away from the computer. Do you best keep good posture to prevent stiff muscle joints or a stiff back. You may not notice it now, but trust me it will present itself so do be aware of your posture.

  4. Stand Up

Whenever it is possible, stand up and walk around. Even stretch your arms and legs if you can. Keep your blood flowing by getting up at least once every hour or so.

  5. Weight Training

I highly recommend adding some weight training into your routine. It does not have to be for a long period of time, but try 2-3 times a week to keep prevent muscle loss due to inactivity.

  6. Get Proper Sleep

I am sure your days are long enough from waking up early in the morning to go to work and getting home later due to traffic. Sleep is so important and you need to give your brain time to re-charge. If you do not get time to get a full 8 hours, see when you are able to squeeze a quick power nap in. Lack of sleep can cause many health issues as you get older so I strongly recommend you make it a priority.

  7. Lunch Break

Depending on how long your lunch break is, take some time to walk around with a co-worker(s).

  8. Reduce Monitor Time

Spending a lot of time looking at your phone or screen puts a lot of strain on your eyes. Be sure to keep a good distance between you and the computer, turn down the brightness, and look away from the computer every 20 minutes.

  9. Pack Healthy Snacks

Try your best to avoid those yummy desserts and snacks they have in the lunch room for employees. Instead, pack healthy snacks for yourself and keep them in your drawer.

  10. Avoid Restaurants

Pack your lunch at home and eat a home cooked meal for lunch. Do your best to avoid going out with co-workers for lunch or buying something near the office because of convenience.
