Benefits of Having a Pet

I LOVE having my two doggies because they have helped me in ways I cannot even explain. I listed reasons below why having a pet can improve your overall health. If you cannot own a pet, I highly recommended visiting an animal shelter or take pet yoga class.

1.     Decreases Stress - One of the amazing things a pet can do for you is decrease stress. Having your cat or dog around automatically puts you in a better mood. Personally, I like to bring my dog to work because when it gets too overwhelming or stressful, my dog is there to keep me grounded.

2.     Lower Blood Pressure - Having your pet around can lower your blood pressure because it comes back to reducing stress. A pet can help remind you to think of the positive things, make you feel calmer and feel that unconditional love.

3.     Reduce Anxiety - Pet therapy really helps people and as I have mentioned, it is in ways people cannot explain. You become at ease during times you may feel alone. A pet can provide reassurance and comfort.

4.     Improves Mood - I don’t know about you, but when I come home I feel so loved and missed by my dogs. To them it feels like I had been gone for months or weeks even if it was just a normal work day. Dogs have so much unconditional love and just want to show affection.

5.     Helps Children Develop - Growing up with a pet has taught me a lot about responsibility and how to care for someone else. I truly improved emotionally once I trained my dog and took care of them. I think it is true when they say before you have kids, get a dog because it can be a big responsibility when it comes to feeding them, brushing their teeth, getting them groomed, and walking them. I would not trade my dogs for anything because how connected I feel to them and how much they have taught me.
