Communication is Key
3 ways to properly EXPRESS and COMMUNICATE your feelings...{key tips to follow...}
I don’t know about you guys, but I struggled a lot with expressing my feelings or asking for help. I was always worried about what people thought, what they might say and how it would make me feel. I just didn’t want to share my feelings.
This of course, was not healthy. When we feel angry, sad, happy, or frustrated ~ we need an outlet. We need to communicate and properly express our emotions to our loved ones say they know how we feel.
Nobody is a mind reader. You have no idea what someone else is thinking. That’s why you have to make sure you are doing your very best to create an environment that encourages love, communication, and allows for voices to be heard.
Here are 3 ways to express your emotions:
😊 When expressing yourself to a loved one or friend, start with the words I FEEL....or I FELT (ex: I felt sad when you said you didn’t like my drawing. It made me feel like I wasn’t good enough.)
😇Don’t raise your voice and speak calmly. When expressing your emotions always approach it in a relaxed tone. Allow yourself to properly collect your thoughts and think about what you want to say
Go into the conversation knowing that you are NOT trying to prove you are right. Come from a place where you would like to express your feelings to allow you both to move forward and grow from here. Nobody is ever wrong or right in a situation. People make mistakes and that’s okay, but never communicate with the intention to blame them or make them feel small.
EJL TIPS: Questions to ask prior to communicating:
Am I going into this conversation and ready to blame the other person? If yes, wait until you feel less resentment towards the situation.
Is there something I need to heal inside myself prior to communicating my feelings? Am I feeling insecure about a comment that was said because it triggered something in my past or my memories?
Am I coming from a place of love and respect when expressing my feelings?
Save this post for the next time you find yourself needing to communicate your thoughts and feelings.
